Direct speech 2.6a. The third and last clause in our lesson is comprised of the two Hebrew words אֲנִי יהוה These two words are the direct speech which וַיֹּ֫אמֶר introduces. Notice there are no quotation marks, other punctuation marks, or capital letters to mark the beginning of direct speech as there are in English.
